Amirali Fatemi

Structural Engineer · Managing Director, Ostovar Consulting Engineers

Amirali Fatemi trained as a structural engineer at Sharif University of Technology before completing graduate work at the University of Tehran, where his research turned toward the seismic behaviour of existing reinforced-concrete and unreinforced-masonry structures — the buildings that make up most of an ageing urban stock, and the ones least equipped to meet current code.

In 2018 he founded Ostovar Consulting Engineers to formalise a practice that had, until then, run informally alongside teaching and site work. The firm's mandate has stayed narrow on purpose: retrofit and renovation, construction management, and structural consulting for projects where the existing building is as much the client's asset as the new work.

He has taught structural retrofit and construction management at the University of Tehran's School of Civil Engineering since 2019, and continues to publish on retrofit methodology, drawing case data directly from the firm's own project record rather than laboratory conditions alone.

Between practice and teaching, the throughline is the same: an existing structure carries information — about its history, its damage, its capacity — that has to be read correctly before it can be added to, altered, or trusted again.
